Hands On Collaboration

For those individuals, families, or groups who are interested in having an actual “hands-on” connection with their project, Rob and Kerrie have the experience and know-how to make it possible. Rob explains, “One client we built a home for committed to fifteen hours a week doing whatever he could to help the project along. His goals were to lower his construction costs a bit, as well as to spend less time at the office, while experiencing something totally new. We were able to keep him busy, and he gradually learned how to use various power tools and such. What impressed him the most though, was seeing how the whole house went together. On a few occasions he brought along his wife and teenage kids to help out. I think it was pretty fulfilling for all of them, and they were able to save some money on labor costs.”


In another instance, Rob designed and gathered materials for a “community-build project” which was to take the form of a footbridge over a gully between two neighborhoods. On the designated date, with everything ready to go, a couple dozen adults and children arrived—many with hammers in hand—ready to go. The whole project was completed in less than four hours. Rob later said “It was amazing. I didn’t get to hammer in even one nail!” Afterwards, with a great sense of satisfaction, the participants gathered on the completed bridge for a snapshot, followed by a potluck supper.

Although it’s not everyone who has the time for, or interest in this sort of experience, for those who do, Creative Constructions of Ithaca offers the flexibility to make it possible!
